Mindfulness across the Practice

Mindfulness provides a common thread across our different approaches to care. Drawing on longstanding meditation practice and mindfulness training, I may incorporate developmentally appropriate mindfulness and mind-body techniques into acupuncture, Chinese medicine, or functional medicine when they are useful and desired.

For some people, that may mean learning a brief breathing or awareness practice. For others, mindfulness becomes a more sustained way of working with stress, discomfort, attention, difficult emotions, or the experience of chronic illness. There is no expectation that patients adopt a particular spiritual or philosophical tradition, and mindfulness is always optional.

My Practice of Meditation

On a personal note, I am a student of Roshi Jokai Blackwell and practice meditation in the Soto Zen tradition and the White Plum Asangha lineage. I received the lay precepts and the dharma name, Taisen ("Peaceful Wellspring”), in 2025.
